The Gender and Governance Programme (GGP), is a national programme that seeks to ensure a focused, coordinated and long-term support towards women’s enjoyment of human rights and participation in democratic governance.
It was launched on Tuesday 22 March 2005 at the Bomas of Kenya. GGP is implemented by AWC, Africa Centre for Women in ICT, Association of Media Women in Kenya, Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, Development Through Media, Education Centre for Women in Democracy, Kenya Women’s Political Caucus, Women’s Political Alliance-Kenya and the Youth Coalition.
The core focus of the programme is:
- Strengthening the Legislative, Policy and Institutional Framework.
- Gender Equality and Women’s Participation in Local governance.
- Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Political Party Process.
- Strengthening Parliamentary Initiative for Gender Equality.
