Breast enlargement or augmentation

Potential Side-effects or complications

Breast implants may interfere with breast feeding
  • During breast cancer detection using X-ray or ultrasound, the implants may impede detection by hiding suspicious tumors or lesions. Those who have the implants have to undergo special imaging procedures.
  • In some cases, those who have implants experience loss of sensation in the nipple and breast area.

 Breast Reduction

Potential side-effects or complications 

  • Loss of breast and nipple sensations since the surgery may damage the nerves supplying blood to nipple.
  • The surgery leaves permanent scars on the breasts.
  • The breast may not be symmetrical in size and shape after the surgery
  • There maybe significant loss of milk ducts.

Tummy Tucks

Potential side-effects or complications

  • Infections after surgery
  • May experience blood clots or bleeding under the skin flap
  • Those who heal poorly may require a second surgery
  • People with heart, liver or lung diseases may increase risk of complications

Liposuction 

Potential side-effects or complications 

  • Infections after the procedure. Need antibiotics to avoid this
  • Blood or fat clots which can travel to the lungs and cause death
  • Procedure can damage the skins and nerves
  • People who have diabetes, heart or lung disease have greater risks of developing complications.

Kenya Audio Visual Archives Conference

The African Woman and Child Feature Service, the Kenya Archival Study Group and the Ford Foundation office in Nairobi, Kenya will hold the Preservation, Conservation and Restoration of Audio Visual Media Conference. 

The conference will be held at the National Museums of Kenya in Nairobi, from December 3rd – 5th 2008.
