Chagua Amani Zuia Noma Campaign PDF Print E-mail

The season on competition for political superiority and political power is with us as political parties and their candidates gear up to win the favour of the electorate.

An unfortunate side effect of all this activity is the flare up of conflict and elections-related violence in the remaining time to the elections, during the elections and in the period post elections.

The Partnership for Peace will launch the Chagua Amani Zuia Noma Campaign (Kiswahili for ‘choose peace prevent strife’) on World Youth Day to be observed on Friday 21st September, 2007.

The Partnership for Peace brings together the faith-based organisations in Kenya, United Nations Development Programme, Ministry of Youth Affairs, the private sector, women’s organisations media organisations including the Media Council of Kenya and the Media Owners Association and the peace activists.

Their objectives are:

  • To provide a forum for open and sincere discussions with key stakeholders
  • Highlight key issues and areas of concern as the country prepares for elections
  • Deliberate and agree on ways and strategies for minimising violence during elections
  • Create a preventative process of regular dialogue and consultation to ensure peace prevails during and after elections
