Nairobi +21 Publication Launch PDF Print E-mail
WHAT: Nairobi +21 Publication Launch

WHEN: Thursday 29th November, 2007

TIME: 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm

WHERE: Nairobi Safari Club (Lillian Towers) The Heinrich Boll Foundation together with the collaborating partners of the Nairobi +21 process will launch the Nairobi +21 publication.

The publication captures in narrative and pictorial format the activities and processes to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the Third United Nations Conference on Women that took place in Nairobi in 1985.

The significance of the 1985 conference is that it put Nairobi on the world map, opening up space for African women to engage with their sisters from around the world and to add the African voice in guiding international policy on women, peace and development issues. It was also the first time that a conference of such stature was hosted in Africa.

The Nairobi conference set the pace for the preparatory processes for the 1995 United Nations Conference on Women that took place in Beijing, China.

The book is a fitting remembrance that depicts the reflective vision, strategies and suggestions for the promotion of gender equality and opportunities for the advancement of women.

The collaborating partners in the Nairobi +21 process include the National Commission on Gender and Development, United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), The Ford Foundation – Eastern Africa Regional Office, African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), African Woman and Child Feature Service (AWC Features), Canadian International Development Agency-Gender Equity Support Project (CIDA-GESP) and the Urgent Action Fund-Africa.
