 Kenya Editors Guild

WHAT:     Editors take a stand against the government ban on live broadcasts

WHEN:     Wednesday 23rd January, 2008

TIME:       10.00 am

WHERE:    Nairobi Serena Hotel

Members of the Kenya Editors’ Guild will address a press conference to voice their opposition to the ban on live broadcasts issued by the Minister for Internal Security on 30th December 2007.

They will issue their statement at a press conference at the Frangipani Room, Nairobi Serena Hotel at 10.00 am.

This is a follow-up of a meeting convened earlier today (Tuesday 22nd January) by the Editors where they endorsed the decision to take a public stand against the ban. They are in agreement that the ban is unacceptable and an infringement on media freedoms and democracy.

The Editors also discussed the need to leverage media freedoms as part of the broad discussions on the political settlement.
