How campaign Kony 2012 Campaign has ignored the feelings of those who suffered and are trying to go on with their life

E-mail Print PDF

The release of Kony2012; a video campaign by the American organisation, Invisible Children, to capture the rebel leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, Joseph Kony has gone viral on YouTube with over 8 million viewers.

While the people of Uganda especially the women organisations welcome this initiative, they are concerned that the video is out of context regarding the real issues of the conflict in Uganda.

Legislation on land must ensure women enjoy their human rights

One area where women, particularly those from Africa have faced violence is in times of land and property inheritance. Many communities, and individuals, whether learned or illiterate have treated women’s right to land and property ownership as well as inheritance with contempt.

Recently, a very prominent doctor in Kenya who was operating from the Coastal town of Mombasa died. His brother, a pastor with the Anglican Church of Kenya in Ugenya, Siaya District decided that his widow had no business being in his house, as she had not had any children with him. The doctor and his second wife had married according to the community’s traditions and even held a church wedding to legalise their marriage after the death of his first wife. They had lived together for more than ten years.

This Cabinet has used and dumped women

By deciding that the two third principle cannot work especially with relation to women’s representation, this Cabinet and Government is behaving like a Cassanova that will only use and dump. They have used the women to achieve their agenda and are now dumping them. What a shame. As we woke up to the World Humanitarian Day, dark clouds hang over Kenya as the Cabinet decided to renege on the issue of the not more than two thirds principle of the same gender taking elective and public positions.

The road to Constitution making in this country has been long and windy. There have been many bumps and potholes that have threatened to derail the making of new laws in Kenya.

A time to look beyond the numbers in women leadership come the next General Elections in Kenya

As politicians are positioning themselves for the next General Elections in Kenya which will be done under the new constitution, one of the issues which have been given the pride of place in the entire struggle of the new constitution is the place of women.

In that the question of women’s representation in any elective post will be the defining moment during the 2012 General Elections.

We must not allow immorality to dominate our economy

E-mail Print PDF

The taste of the economy around the world is taking unprecedented turns that could have devastating effects on the poor masses who form majority of the population.

Today the world is walking towards marking the seven billion mark in its population. However, the economy is not working well and the political leadership lies divided within political lines.

Looking at the debt crisis debate currently going in the United States of America, where I am currently visiting, Kenya comes glaringly to mind as I wonder what will happen to us middle and low class as prices escalate to an immoral level.
