Dr. Sekagja - A conventional medic turned herbalist

From time immemorial herbalists have been treated more with suspicion than a healthy respect and recognition by the people from the western world despite hundreds and even thousands of years of time-tested knowledge in Africa and Asia.

African people too have continued to misunderstand herbalists and at times interpret them to mean witchdoctors and occultists, hence causing fear amongst would be clients who are in dire need of effective but affordable treatment.

 The sight of Kenya burning on the television screen was enough to propel Fidel Rutayisire running looking for anything to help. In the words of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, “When a snake enters the house you look for the nearest stick to kill it.” 

 

Prof. Alfred Opubor; the first man to get his PHD in Media and Communication in Africa

Being the first man in Africa to get a PHD in communication  is not a mean feat for Prof Alfred Opubor a man who has shaped  the way communication and evelopment is taught in  the continent for the last four decades.

For him he atributes his achievement in acedeminc world of media and communication on  what he calls; “ What my grandmother taught me about communication."

Call for Papers for the Media & Diversity Journal

The Media and Diversity Journal is a research-based and peer-reviewed quasi-academic journal published three times a year in the months of April, August and December. It is published by the University of Nairobi’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the African Woman and Child Feature Service.

The Media and Diversity Journal (MDJ) is inviting submissions for its special issue on Identity and Conflict planned for December 2010.
