Kenyans to be buried in cardboard coffins

The Eco Jeneza, photo courtesy of http://www.eapi.co.keKenyans are likely from next month to start burying their dead in coffins made from corrugated cardboards or cartons following a local company decision to invest in this venture.

The first samples of such coffins, the Eco Jeneza, have already been made and are on display in some major coffin outlets in the city.

As the economic crunch continues to extend its tentacles across the globe, many Kenyans continue to sink deeper into poverty.

At only eighteen years of age, Magdalene Ndindi is already a mother of two, as a single parent with no formal employment, everyday is a struggle to make ends meet particularly with the constantly increasing economic inequalities where the poor have continued to become even poorer.

 

 

African Development Bank and Shelter Afrique sign USD 38 Million Financial Package

All it took was a few, deft strokes of the pen on paper, and a brief ceremony of great significance for African real estate developers and housing finance institutions was formalized in the form of a USD 38 million (KES 2.9 billion) financial package between the main principles at the African Development Bank (AfDB), Shelter-Afrique and the Embassy of Japan.

 

Call for Papers for the Media & Diversity Journal

The Media and Diversity Journal is a research-based and peer-reviewed quasi-academic journal published three times a year in the months of April, August and December. It is published by the University of Nairobi’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the African Woman and Child Feature Service.

The Media and Diversity Journal (MDJ) is inviting submissions for its special issue on Identity and Conflict planned for December 2010.
