Women’s Conference
A national Women’s conference on the Harmonised draft Constitution which brought together over 400 female delegates from the 8
provinces including former and current female Members of Parliament. The rationale behind the forum was for women to interrogate the gender agenda within the draft with special focus on the gains for women. As a
result a newspaper was produced which gave women a common platform to send a strong message to the leaders, general public but particularly to the Committee of Experts to the Constitution
(COE) with regard to where they stand in as far as the draft is concerned. Within the newspaper their voices reflected an understanding of the issues that are key to the progress of the gender agenda in Kenya.
The forum also gave them an opportunity to come up with recommendations to the COE two days before the review period came to a close.
