RE: INVITATION FOR A PRE- REFERENDUM MEETING ON MEDIA SCENARIO
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) in collaboration with the Committee of Experts (CoE), the Independent Interim Election Commission (IIEC), the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission( TJRC), Interim Boundary Review Commission (IBRC) , Kenya Law Reform Commission )KLRC) with the support of UNDP have organized a two day conference which is aimed at addressing lessons learnt on the legal, political and other factors that could shape and undermine the referendum and propose ways forward to dealing with them.
The aim of the meeting is to dialogue and discuss with the media fraternity based on lessons learnt in 2005 referendum and 2007 general elections on how the Commissions can partner with the media during the up-coming referendum elections because the role of the media cannot be ignored, particularly at a time when Kenya is at a cross-roads in light of the defining on-going reform processes.
Due to the massive audience that can be reached through the media, it is critical that the media works closely with the Agenda Four Commissions towards the Kenya we want.
