Opening of Our bodies, Our stories art exhibition
The Trust for Indigenous Culture and health (TICAH) cordially is hosting a unique art exhibition titled Our bodies, Our stories. This exhibition brings together a selection of 20 body maps made by Kenyans between 2005 and 2011, most of whom are living with HIV.
A body map involves painting a life-size representation of one’s body onto a canvas using pictures, symbols and words to represent the path that one has taken through life.
The body mapping project aims at fighting social and psychological stigma attached to living with HIV and AIDS. These self-portraits tell each person’s story about happiness, rights, health, illness, stigma and strength as they journey through their life in the age of HIV/AIDS.
The German Development Cooperation through GIZ, Art2Be (a group of Kenyan and international psychologists and artists) and TICAH (Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health) work together on innovative approaches of self-expression using creative and therapeutic tools targeting marginalised groups in Kenya.
TICAH is involved in enhancing the positive links between health and cultural knowledge, practice, belief, ritual, and artistic expression. TICAH’s work explores and enhances the positive links between culture and health.
